Tips and Cost Saving Ideas

During the winter months – be sure to shovel or clear all sidewalks, pathways and driveways as needed.

All cartons should be completely sealed on top and bottom, and should be clearly marked with the destination room that you would like them delivered to.

For local hourly moves, consider disassembling and reassembling beds and cribs (AAMS can perform this service, but if you decide to perform this yourself prior to our arrival you will reduce the time of your move, and thus the cost of your hourly move).

For local hourly moves, remove mirrors from dressers (AAMS can perform this service, but if you decide to perform this yourself prior to our arrival you will reduce the time of your move, and thus the cost of your hourly move).

Dresser drawers may remain full during the move as long as there are no liquids (such as perfume), fragile items (such as picture frames), or heavy items (such as books) in the drawers.

On moving day for local moves, AAMS can provide a free wardrobe rental service for your hanging clothes. There is no cost for these day-of-move containers as long as they are returned at the end of the day on the day of the move. This is a great way to move your hanging clothes so that they do not get wrinkled, and helps lessen the amount of packing that needs to be performed prior to the start of the move.

Remove drip/drain pans, kick plate, and waterlines from refrigerators and freezers (AAMS can arrange this service to be performed by our contracted 3rd Party Technicians, but you can eliminate those costs by performing this service yourself).

Make plans in advance for your refrigerator and freezer contents - those appliances will need to be empty if you plan to move them.

Disconnect and reconnect Washing Machines, Dryers and other major household appliances that you are planning to move (AAMS can arrange these services to be performed by our contracted 3rd Party Technicians, but you can eliminate those costs by performing the services yourself).

Remove railings and banisters as necessary.

Keep pets in a room that will not be used during the moving process, or have them stay at a friend or neighbor’s house during the move. Having pets on-site during a move can add time to the move process.

Disconnect and reconnect all electronic components that you plan to move (such as TVs, DVD players, stereo equipment, computer equipment, etc). AAMS does not perform this service and will need those items disconnected prior to our arrival.
