Moving Prep Guide

Six Weeks Before Your Move

  • Select All America Relocation for your Ohio move and make arrangements for moving day.
  • Contact IRS and/or your accountant for information on which moving expenses may be tax-deductible.
  • Start to remove items from your attic, basement, storage shed, etc.
  • Start to use up items that are unable to be moved.

Four Weeks Before Your Move:

  • Change your address with the U.S. Post Office
  • Make arrangements for your trip. Please do not arrange a flight before or during your load spread. Your house closing may be delayed or other situations may occur.
  • Contact service companies to have your utilities shut off the day after your load spread.
  • Schedule a moving sale for the items that you have decided not to move. Items that do not sell, donate to a charity (make sure you receive a receipt for tax purposes).
  • If you are intending to pack yourself, stop by All America Relocation to purchase your packing supplies.
  • Obtain all of your personal records.

Two Weeks Before Your Move:

  • Arrange for your bank accounts to be closed at your old location and open at your new location.
  • If you are moving out of an apartment or condo location, please schedule to have an elevator reserved for your move crew.
  • Contact your Ohio move coordinator to make sure everything is on schedule.
  • Use up or dispose of all flammables that are prohibited to be moved.

One Week Before Your Move:

  • Defrost your freezer and refrigerator.
  • Drain fuel from your lawnmower, snow blower, etc.
  • Gather all of your valuables that are to be transported by you (safe deposit box, jewelry, checks, personal records).
  • Pack your bags for the trip. Make sure you include all of the items that you will need while your shipment is in transit.

Moving Day:

  • Move all items that are not to be taken by the crew to one designated area, make sure that you specify this area with the entire crew.
  • Be prepared to answer questions that the crew may have for you.
  • Read over the Bill of Lading and inventories. If you have any questions, ask your driver.
  • Do a final walk through with the crew to make sure all items that are to be moved have been.
  • Record all meter readings for your records.
  • Ask the driver for his contact information.
  • Confirm with the driver your destination information (Phone numbers, address, and directions).
  • Most importantly, RELAX. All America Relocation is here to take care of your Ohio move.

Delivery Day:

  • Be available during your move spread.
  • The driver will contact you 24 hours in advance before delivery.
  • Be available to check items off as they come into your home.
