If by chance your only phone is your home phone - don't disconnect it until after your move date. And please make sure to provide your move consultant with all addresses and ways to contact you during the relocation - including email, cell phone, work phone.
Prior to the packer's arrival, place any items not intended for transport in a safe area.
Refrigerators and freezers must be emptied, defrosted and wiped out prior to loading - please start this process a day or two prior to move day.
If you are bringing washers, dryers or ice makers - make sure they are disconnected and serviced before the crew arrives, unless contracted with your move consultant to handle disconnect services.
All items in the attic, craw space or temporary storage must be brought to an area that the moving crew can access.
We are not allowed to remove any permanently affixed items: carpeting, electrical or plumbing fixtures, shelving, drapes/curtains/shades, wall-mounted TVs, etc. - please have these items disassembled and ready for transport if you plan to bring with you.
All walkways and driveways must be clear of snow, ice, mud and other hazards.
Keep pets in a secured area while movers are onsite. Often times, it's wise to have to have small children not on premises during a move.
Very large, bulky items like pool tables, pendulum clocks, waterbeds, hot tubs, swing sets, as well as large screen TVs may require special packaging or servicing. Please make sure your consultant is aware of your plans to move these items so proper preparation can be provided.
Please note that it is your responsibility to disconnect all electronics that are being moved - such as TV and related components, computer equipment, etc. These items should be disconnected the night before the movers arrive.
Remove any printer ink cartridges and copier toner.
We do not recommend transporting firearms in a moving van. If firearms are transported, The Brady Bill requires that the make, model and serial number be listed on the inventory. The customer must initial the inventory line acknowledging receipt. We cannot, under any circumstances transport ammunition.
Vehicles and boats should have all personal items removed prior to transport.
Machinery (such as lawn mowers, etc) should be drained of all fuel and oil in the motor.
Exercise equipment should be folded up or disassembled as necessary to ensure these items can fit through the door and be transported safely.
The driver will list your items along with the box count. You are responsible to verify the accuracy of your inventory
It is important to do a final walk through of the residence prior to the driver leaving to ensure everything has been loaded. Moving company is not liable for items that are left behind.
Movers are forbidden by law to ship or store the following items:
Nail Polish Remover
Automotive Repair & Maintenance
Paint and Paint thinners
Radioactive Pharmaceuticals (used in the field of nuclear medicine as tracers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases)
Plants should not be moved in a moving van. The driver has the final right of refusal and will not be liable for plant damage
VALUATION COVERAGE LIMITATIONS
The following items are not covered under your valuation (transit protection) policy and should be taken with you personally.
Collections (coin, stamp, etc)
Wine collections can be susceptible to damage caused by atmospheric conditions. It is recommended that the customer transport it with them or arrange for a climatic controlled vehicle.
Mechanical failure of microwave ovens, setereo's, TVs, CDs, DVDs radios, fax machines, copiers, scanners, computers, etc. ...are not covered under normal valuation (transit protection) unless there is physical transit-related damage. Stored data is not covered and should be backed up.
You are required to use the Customer Check-off Sheet to ensure delivery of all items and note any missing items.
It is important to do a walkthrough of the residence prior to the driver leaving and note any property damage.
In the event of damaged items, notify your consultant right away of the damages and they will guide you to the appropriate claim filing procedure. Please do not discard any broken/damaged items as they may need to be retained for inspection during the process claim.
During the winter months – be sure to shovel or clear all sidewalks, pathways and driveways as needed.
All cartons should be completely sealed on top and bottom, and should be clearly marked with the destination room that you would like them delivered to.
For local hourly moves, consider disassembling and reassembling beds and cribs (AAMS can perform this service, but if you decide to perform this yourself prior to our arrival you will reduce the time of your move, and thus the cost of your hourly move).

Dresser drawers may remain full during the move as long as there are no liquids (such as perfume), fragile items (such as picture frames), or heavy items (such as books) in the drawers.
On moving day for local moves, AAMS can provide a free wardrobe rental service for your hanging clothes. There is no cost for these day-of-move containers as long as they are returned at the end of the day on the day of the move. This is a great way to move your hanging clothes so that they do not get wrinkled, and helps lessen the amount of packing that needs to be performed prior to the start of the move.
Remove drip/drain pans, kick plate, and waterlines from refrigerators and freezers (AAMS can arrange this service to be performed by our contracted 3rd Party Technicians, but you can eliminate those costs by performing this service yourself).
Make plans in advance for your refrigerator and freezer contents - those appliances will need to be empty if you plan to move them.
Disconnect and reconnect Washing Machines, Dryers and other major household appliances that you are planning to move (AAMS can arrange these services to be performed by our contracted 3rd Party Technicians, but you can eliminate those costs by performing the services yourself).
Remove railings and banisters as necessary.
Keep pets in a room that will not be used during the moving process, or have them stay at a friend or neighbor’s house during the move. Having pets on-site during a move can add time to the move process.
Disconnect and reconnect all electronic components that you plan to move (such as TVs, DVD players, stereo equipment, computer equipment, etc). AAMS does not perform this service and will need those items disconnected prior to our arrival.
